Unlike the newer city of Cape Coral, FL, Sarasota has a long, documented history with maps of the area dating back to the 1700’s. There are many questions as to where the name Sarasota even originated. The most popular belief is that it came from the Indian word, “sara-se-cota”, meaning landfall easily observed. Sarasota is located along the Gulf of Mexico, just south of Tampa Bay and north of Fort Myers.
Today, Sarasota, along with the bordering counties of Manatee and Charlotte, create the 7th largest market in Florida. It is also named the 3rd fastest growing major market in Florida.
