Overview of Estero, Florida

Estero is located in the heart of Southwest Florida, nestled along the Gulf of Mexico just south of Fort Myers and north of Naples. Estero’s name is easy to understand, it is Spanish for Estuary (where 1 or more rivers connect to the ocean), which is exactly what Estero is. As the Fort Myers and Naples communities were rapidly growing, Estero was home to many Citrus farms and pastures. Although many of those farms are developed today, much of Estero is still preserved.

With the opening of Florida Gulf Coast University in 1991 came many new developments and shopping centers. Though Estero was the last to grow, it is now considered to be the core of many Southwest Florida businesses and families.
